Web 2.0, Library 2.0

Future Libraries - WOW - Scary, exciting, incomprehensible, sensible, alienating yet in a way so sociable....

The pace and immediacy of technology as it evolves and as libraries evolve with it is fascinating yet at times beyond my comprehension. The Libraries 2.0 Program is now fitting together for me and I can now see the overall picture I think.....

Knowledge has never been finite, but now where and when can anyone stop, satisfied they have discovered all they can at any point in time? There is so much out there and more every minute.
Perfectionists and obsessives beware.

Will people still leave their computers long enough to enjoy the feel of a well thumbed book written by an expert, buy a newspaper or a magazine,will they attend classes, lectures, tutorials, theatres, cinemas, art galleries, museums, even libraries?Will the social interface of learning be a computer screen/ i pod / mobile phone? Will the world be divided even further by those with technology at their fingertips and those without? I wonder..........

As an ex teacher I would think tagging would make organizing and developing curriculum and lesson plans ever so much easier, and lead to much greater sharing of ideas and resources at individual student, class, school, region, even state level.
As a life long learner, traveller and grappler with new technologies, the concept of tagging has many interesting and manageable possibilities for me.
As a Library worker, I see tagging useful for relevant on line group training, socialising and sharing interests at staff level. Also as avaluable shared tool for homework and reference quieries.

I think using the mashups on Trip Planner (Yahoo! Travel) would prove really valuable for people keen to document and share travel experiences and itineraries outside the norm of overseas travel.

some just the ups and downs in an egg timer,
most a bit of both!
